Terror threat issued for tankers in Staight of Malacca

This article is about a threat that a terrorist group is going to attack on the oil tankers in the Straight of Malacca. Singapore's navy was warned March 4,2010. The Straight of Malacca is one of the world's busiest shipping lanes. An advisory issued by the Singapore Navy Information Centre said that "The terrorists' intent is probably to achieve widespread publicity and showcase that it remains a viable group." It also said " However, this informoation does not preclude possible attacks on other large vessels with dangerous cargo." The IFC recommended for ships to improve security measures, and also to look out for smaller boats like dinghies, sampans, and speedboats because they have been used to successfully attack tankers in the past.

We think that this isn't a real threat to the Singaporian navy. Also we don't think they have to worry because they know that it's coming so they can prepare. We think that this is more of a publicity stunt than a threat because they havn't done anything yet. Also we think it is stupid that they attack oil tankers with naval ships around. Plus we say that if a little speed boat does attack a big oil tanker then the other boats can surround it so it cant get away. We think this a dumb stunt for a terrorist group to attack.
"Arms Drive" in South East Asia"

This is saying that South East Asian nations are increasing there military capacity. This report also states that arms or weapons imports by Indonesia, Singapore, and Malayshia leapt by 84%, 146%, and 722% between 2005 and 2009, compared to 5 years previouse. Analysts are saying that thisa regional arms race is due to the need to replace old weapons in addition to the growing strength of china. China has increased there government spending by alot. Because of China other countries like Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia are also enthusiastic to show off there muillitary strength. Some analysts say that thjese countries see another spending spending more money on millitary then the other countries will follow.

We think that this is smart what Singapore, Indonesia, and malayshia are doing. Thay are trying to keep up with China in millitrary power. However we think that this may spark a war between these countries because they ar trying to "top" eachother. We also think that this could bring nuclear weapons into it so then other countries would get involved and this could lead to a nuclear war. Also we think that if this "Arms Race" leads to a war between China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore it would affect the world because we rely on some of the exports these countries produce.
